I'm back! I've had the most amazing ten days,
I got back yesterday very tired and exhausted!
The whole trip was brilliant, Global Adventures
did a great job organizing it all.
The 1st 2 days or so was spent traveling and
acclimating to the altitude. Cusco is 3,300m
above sea level (approx 11,000ft)
Then we started the Inca Trail. The 1st day
was relatively easy, just 9km on fairly flat
ground. At night we camped in tents. Everything
was carried and set up by our porters who were
amazing. We had 3 course breakfast, lunch and
dinner everyday!
The 2nd day was the hardest, we had to climb
to Dead Woman's Pass - 4200m or 14,000ft! Once
we reached the top the views were spectacular.
The photo where I’m wearing a silly had
is at the top of dead woman's pass. The picture
doesn't do what I saw justice. After a short
break to had to go back down the other side!
On the 3rd day we walked 16km to our last campsite
(which had a bar!) So after a long hard day
we all treated ourselves to a few beers. We
said goodbye to our porters and had a surreal
song and dance with them.
On day 4 we got up early and walked for 2 or
so hours to the Sun Gate.
This is where you get the first glimpse of Macchu
Picchu. A truly magical moment as this
lost city just appears from nowhere. Unbelievable!
The pain and effort from the last few days just
disappeared in an instant.
We had a guided tour around Macchu Picchu before
getting a train back to the hotel for a long
overdue shower!
That evening we had a celebratory dinner before
sampling a Peruvian nightclub.
This was an amazing trip and I am so grateful
that by doing this I have raised some money,
and awareness, for The Joshua Foundation. It
was brilliant.
Many thanks
Lindsey
