Tom Dimond and Lloyd Evans at Castle Coombe Racing Circuit

Tom Dimond

Sunday 1st August marked 12 years since Joshua Cornelius asked his mother to organise for other children to enjoy the same experiences as he had enjoyed during his treatment. It was also the day that Tom Dimond enjoyed attending the Diamond Anniversary meeting celebrating 60 years of racing at Castle Coombe Circuit. Since July 1950, F1 Grand Prix winners, World Champions and all kinds of celebrities have raced there and it was Tom and his families turn to enjoy a VIP visit. A great day was had by all and a special thank you to Ian Danaher for being their guide and for organising the day!

Lloyd Evans

Lloyd Evans also enjoyed a day at Castle Coombe. He had a fantastic day seeing all the cars and meeting some of the drivers. He enjoyed watching the races very much. He was also very pleased to go round the circuit in the safety car that lead the procession of vintage cars.

Please pass on a very big thank you to Ian Danaher and his son who made the day extra special.

Finally a big thanks to you guys at The Joshua Foundation for arranging the day and the great work that you do.

Miss UniverseGB and Charlotte Braggs in London

Miss UniverseGB Tara Hoyes Mendez made Charlotte Braggs day when she joined her and her family for a meal at the fabulous Rainforest Café in London on Friday 6th August 2010. Tara was in the midst of getting ready to fly off to Las Vegas for the final of Miss Universe, but found time in her busy schedule to make a dream come true for 5 year old Charlotte. And the experience did not end there. We arranged for Charlotte and her family to stay in the luxurious Langham Hotel for the night where she enjoyed movies, munchies and a VIP welcome. A great break was hard in London and we would like to thank Tara for using her beauty and time to make a real difference to a little girl and her family!!

Leah–Beth is a very special Cardiff Blues Mascot

On Friday, 26th March Cardiff Blues Rugby team were very fortunate to have a very special mascot lead them out on to the pitch for their game against Ulster. Leah–Beth has to be one of the most glamorous mascots to have graced the pitch as she looked dazzling in her pink shirt with the Cardiff Blues logo tattooed on to her cheek. She also proved to be a very lucky mascot as Cardiff won the game 19-9.

Tom plays snooker with Mark Williams

On Friday, March 19th, Tom was privileged to enjoy a few games of snooker with World Champion, Mark Williams at his snooker club in Tredegar. Tom travelled in style in a luxury limo and played the first game on his own with Mark providing him with tuition, for the second game Tom teamed up with boxing legend Nicky Piper and they were duly beaten by Mark and Tom’s brother –in-law, Ryan and the third game saw Tom’s mum Lynne and her partner Peter thrashed by Mark and Tom. During lunch at a nearby Wetherspoons restaurant, Mark very kindly presented Tom with a signed snooker Cue as a memento of his day.

Many thanks to Viv Williams from Viv’s Calor Gas Supplies for funding this experience.

Rosie has lunch with Miss Wales

A young girl currently suffering with cancer was specially chosen by the current Miss Wales – Lucy Whitehouse to have lunch with her at The Hard Rock Café in Cardiff on Sunday, 14th March. Rosie had previously travelled to London in a limo with Lucy as she was flying off to the Miss World competition in South Africa but due to an unexpected photo shoot – Lucy couldn’t have lunch with Rosie in London at the time. Lucy wanted to ensure she had her lunch with Rosie and upon meeting at The Hard Rock Café presented Rosie with a tiara to match her own Miss Wales crown.

Eight year old Matthew from The Children’s Hospital, Cardiff with his mum, dad and younger brother Ben were chosen to watch the Cardiff Devils V Nottingham Panthers game on 14th March at The Cardiff Ice Arena. Matthew received a signed shirt and puck from the Cardiff Devils team before they skated out for their penultimate home game of the season.

Dorothy meets cast of Sister Act

A youngster from University College Hospital London received four tickets to watch the Musical, Sister Act at The London Palladium on 11th March. Dorothy and her mum, dad and sister found the performance very moving and entertaining and in a letter received from the family they said “We have never been there before but you all had given us such a privilege, not only did we watch the play, we also had the opportunity to speak to the Cast and were able to ask questions behind the scene and take pictures. We want to thank you all again for your kindest act of love and we enjoyed and appreciated all your effort in making this possible for us.” The family got to meet Patina Miller who plays Deloris Van Cartier and have their picture taken with her.

Katie from Aberdare

Katie from Aberdare had her night on the catwalk recently when she was centre stage at the Miss Merthyr Tydfil 2010 beauty pageant. 11 year old Katie was chosen to present flowers to the competition winner and runners-up. Her big night out began in style when a chauffeur driven limousine arrived at her house to transport Katie and her mum, June to the glamorous event. "It was a night I will never forget", said Katie

Jamie from Merthyr

Lucky lad, Jamie from Merthyr will be the envy of his friends when he returns to school as he has recently been presented with a rugby shirt by the manager of DW Sports in Merthyr. Jamie was chosen by The Joshua Foundation to receive the shirt after years of treatment for cancer. The shirt was Adam Jones' actual shirt he wore and was signed by the whole of the Welsh team – although it will probably be quite a few years before Jamie fits into the shirt, he was very proud to show it off to all his friends.
