Peru Inca Trail Challenge

A team of Legal & General employees recently completed the grueling challenge of the Peru Inca Trail to raise money for The Joshua Foundation.

They raised a fantastic £12371.30 over a period of 12 months, through various things to raise money including cake sales, fun days, raffles, book sales etc. This fantastic amount also includes match funding of £6000 from Legal and General.

The team of hikers included Craig Diaz, John Ford, Tsz Liu, Leanne Roberts, with fundraising support from Kath Evans & Christina Crilly.

They hiked for 4 days through the Inca trail, approximately 45km - mostly up steps! The highest they climbed was a massive 4215 metres above sea level, and on the last day they reached Mach Picchu which was only re-discovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham

Below are comments from each of the team members who took on the grueling challenge:

"Although this hike was physically & mentally grueling it was a once in a lifetime experience that i feel more than lucky to have had the opportunity to be a part of and doing it for such a worthy Charity makes me feel very proud"
Leanne Roberts

"It was the most difficult thing i have ever done but ultimately it was also the most rewarding. The worst thing was day 2, all that walking up hill at high altitude was hard on my legs and lungs; the best thing was seeing machu pichu, it was truly overwhelming and made everything else worthwhile".
Tsz Liu

"It was hard work but i feel proud for what we achieved in such a short time and hope the money raised goes towards making a real difference to the lives of the children it will benefit"
John Ford

"Just visiting a beautiful country like Peru was an amazing experience. Actually trekking The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu was something I will never forget, made it all the more worthwhile knowing that we had raised much needed funds for an extremely good cause"
Craig Diaz

Everyone at The Joshua Foundation would like to extend a massive thanks to the team for raising a fantastic amount of money towards our work for children with terminal cancer, and also to Legal & General for their support of the team and the fantastic match funding.
