Vibe Models –
organisers of the Miss Wales competition –
have adopted The Joshua Foundation as the competition’s
official charity and expect to raise in excess
of £20,000 for the cause this year.
The foundation is headed by former Welsh Woman
of the Year, Sarah Cornelius, and was created
in 1998 to provide holidays and experiences
for children and their families, where the child
is diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Director of Vibe Models, Paula Abbandonato,
said: “In recent years, we’ve really
directed the focus of the competition towards
charitable contribution. Beauty with a purpose
is one of the key drivers behind the Miss World
organisation, and it is something we are really
keen to follow.”
For Sarah Cornelius, the news of a new supporter
comes at an important time. She said: “Next
year will be the 10th anniversary of The Joshua
Foundation. We have come a long way in that
time, but there is still so much we would like
to do. Every penny counts, and to have new supporters
such as the Miss Wales competition, is good
news indeed.”
The winner of Miss Wales 2007 will become an
official ambassador for the charity and will
be involved in its events and initiatives both
in the UK and overseas.
