The Overseas Organisations

Romania

The Organisation

P.A.V.E.L is a Romanian organisation that helps children with cancer and their parents. They try to help in as many ways as possible; from providing a house for parents to stay while their children are in hospital to opening hospital playrooms

...and from publishing medical booklets to organising festivities for children in hospitals.

The situation

The playroom where I volunteered cannot sadly be used anymore. The children at this hospital are in need of play support. It is the only paediatric oncology department in Bucharest without any.

The children would also benefit from regular excursions. Trips ran by P.A.V.E.L in the past were extremely successful.

Mongolia

The Organisation

The Jubilee Society, a small Mongolian organisation, has been helping children with leukaemia. They opened a hospital playroom for these children and provide a salary for one play worker.

They also arrange a summer camp in the countryside for the children.

The situation

The play worker employed by the Jubilee Society shares her time between two playrooms the leukaemia playroom and a playroom for cardiac patients. It is not always possible for the children with leukaemia to visit the playroom during the current short daily opening hours.

More play staff need to be employed in order for the children to have more opportunity to play!
