January 2008 Update
Dear Alison,
Hope you and your team had wonderful Christmas and New Year.
May God keep and bless you in coming year and beyond.
We have been seeking God’s direction to lead us: where the support should go, since we received the fund from local Rotary club through Joshua Foundation,
Background of the Leukemia ward in Mother and Child Hospital
This ward’s capacity of 23 patients and only a professional medical service to 0-18 years old patients in Mongolia. Only 2-3 doctors specialized to this illness, according to higher work load comparing to another wards of hospital, not enough nurses willing to this ward.

About patients
A course treatment lasts for 3 years and patients come to Ulaanbaatar 3 to 4 times a year from all part of country. All ages children couldn’t study and gain education. Teenagers would drop out their schooling.
Basically the treatment and injections are very expensive in everywhere; in here medicine is costs 60000 tgs for chemical injection, which is more than $50 at ones. As you think of it you would go and get some injections for them for even short period. But just before the fund arrives, the South Korean doctors contributed the treatment (chemical injection) for one year usage.
Jubilee Playroom
It started in May 2001 and there were any playroom in whole hospital at that time. We had to set a room decorate and paint, furniture it. The leukemia and Cardiology patients were in same ward and when these two wards split, Jubilee hired another worker for the cardiology ward playroom. But due to the hospital room and space capacity, Jubilee had to stop the Cardiology ward playroom. And leukemia playroom moved to another corner of the ward. The doctors reasoned that there is not enough room for patients and wanted to use the playroom section as a patient’s room. Fortunately the neurology ward afforded us opportunity to run the Playroom.
Anyway, this hospital is huge big building but only complete service especially to CHILDREN.
The Leukemia playroom never gets sun and very cold during winter seasons.

This one window in the ark and back side front 2 windows in first floor are the 3 windows of Leukemia playroom.
The windows are old and cranny, so cold wind blows.
Children want to come and play in the room but prefer stay warm in the bed.
Three wooden windows replaced by vacuum windows and floor covered by colorful puzzle cork sort of stuff, which can keep children warm as they walk over. Since the windows changed children all come to the room and enjoy with games and listening the books reading by Tuul. (Playroom worker)
The special contract made with Leukemia ward doctors: The playroom will stay in the same room in coming three years according to previous experience, current condition of hospital work load, and proportion of patients and room.
‘Before’: The wood saw stuffed into cranny.
‘After’
Children had joyful time during the Christmas and New Year.
Could you send our appreciation to the local Rotary club and share this mail to the members of club.
Warm regards,
Banjuu
