The Joshua Foundation’s annual after-dark sponsored walk... "Lite the Nite" was held at four venues this year
across South Wales & the Midlands : Cardiff, Fishguard, Nottingham & Swansea. This series of the very popular
family event involving a sponsored walk with illuminated balloons raised a total of almost £9,000.
- The Nottingham event started the 2009 series with a small enthusiastic group of supporters, including several
‘2010 Oz Kids’,undertaking the now regular around Nottingham Castle walk on a pleasant evening - raising a splendid total of £3500
- The 3rd Swansea Bay "Lite the Nite" (6th March) walk attracted an enthusiastic crowd who braved cold & wet conditions to
undertake the walk from Blackpill …along the coastal path to Oystermouth. The group included a number of local ‘Oz kids’,
local TJF supporters … plus two finalists of the 2009 Miss Wales competition.
- The first LTN event held at Fishguard on 13th March was a very successful evening, with over 120 people participating
in the sponsored walk around the Goodwick football field… and an extended walk through the Fishguard Harbour (courtesy of
STENNA FERRIES). The walkers started at the Goodwick Scout Hut (courtesy of Goodwick Scout Committee), where walkers
collected their illuminated balloons for the sponsored walk. Although it was disappointing that support was
limited from local schools, but this was more than made up by the enthusiastic
participation of cubs scouts + sea cadets... who braved a cold wind to undertake the
walk - all filled with good humour. TJF would like to thank the officers &
cadets of the St John’s Ambulance Brigade who also gave freely of their time to
escort the walkers... and members of the Fishguard & Goodwick Rotary Club who
helped out as Course Marshalls. The event raised over £1700 (including a generous
donation of £500 from the staff of Stenna Ferries)
- The Cardiff event held at St Fagan’s Fok Museum on the 13th also faced raw weather conditions , but the group of local supporters still raised over £2000 through their efforts … and enjoyed the company of like-hearted people.
Sarah Cornelius, the staff & trustees of the Joshua Foundation extend their sincere thanks to all
our supporters … both young & old … who turned out to enjoy an evening of family fun … at the same
time as raising funds for children with terminal cancer.
