Thursday 4th December 2008 7pm
Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff
On December 4th 1998, Joshua Cornelius died in the arms of his mother Sarah, after a 2 year battle with abdominal cancer. To mark the 10th
anniversary of Joshua's death we held a spectacular musical auto-biographical concert at the prestigious Welsh Millennium Centre. A cast of
350 youngsters along with guest soloists and the London Community Gospel Choir celebrated Joshua's legacy in style!
It had all begun a year before when Sarah Cornelius and her partner Ben Price, sat down to write the show, aptly called "Putting It Together".
Auditions for the TJF chorus began in earnest in the New Year and starting early spring rehearsals commenced, courtesey of a room donated to us
by British Gas.
Junior schools across South Wales were then contacted to form the mass choir, with backing tracks prepared by Leo Media. Songs were chosen with
much care to ensure many of Josh's favourites were included, along with songs that spoke volumes of Joshua's courage, determination and integrity.
The concert was a huge success. After a day of rehearsals, it was literally the first time everyone had come together - the show was ready to go!
As the audience came into the Donald Gordon Theatre, excited youngsters took their seats and we were ready for curtain up.
The first half dealt with the difficult story of Joshua's life, his diagnosis and ultimate death. The second half moved onto the Joshua Foundation,
it’s creation, development and future. Unseen footage of Joshua was shown to an audience who found it easy to laugh at Joshua's charm and
intelligence. It was a wonderful moment!
The London Community Gospel Choir added spiritual style to the evening - what great voices! And Victoria and Anthony from the Royal College of
Music shared the beautiful "Prayer" which touched so many people!
But the stars of the evening were the TJF soloists and the mass choir. How apt that young people had such a fab time performing all in Josh's
name. Our gratitude goes out to everyone who took part- thank you for making the 10th anniversary a unique, inspiring and memorable night!
