Saturday 1st December saw the opening of the Joshua Foundation’s first "Comfortably Numb Lifestyle Café"
at 47/49 Castle Arcade, Cardiff opposite the Castle. The Café bar will serve hot and cold food as well as
takeaway coffee and snacks. From the minute the doors were open there were customers from far and wide joining
us to celebrate our opening- many of whom had never heard of the Joshua Foundation before. Some came in the
morning for coffee and joined us for lunch later in the day.
It had been a close call, with work only finishing on the unit at 10p.m the night before but thanks to all
the staff, both at the café and at the TJF office we made it! A big thank you goes out to everyone who made
this dream of ours possible!
In the evening once we had survived our first day a special party was held for all those involved in the
construction and work on the café, including ex-welsh international rugby star JJ Williams whose firm completed
the building work at the unit. JJ and his wife and brother in law John (who is a gorgeous man who went beyond
the call of duty!) came along and joined us. It was rather apt that it all came together just a few days before
the 9th anniversary of Joshua’s death on December the 4th. I am sure that Joshua would be very proud to see what has
been achieved in his name since 1998 and we hope this Comfortably Numb Café will be the first of many which will
help us change the lives of children with terminal cancer for many years to come!
