The Joshua Foundation (TJF) is a Cardiff based national charity that was created in September 1998 to provide holidays and experiences for children with terminal cancer and their families where the child is aged between birth and 19.
Named after a very special little boy who lived life to the full and whose legacy lives on through the wonderful work TJF does.
Joshua Cornelius was 5 when he was diagnosed with Desmoplastic Round Cell Tumour of the abdomen, a terminal and aggressive cancer and was given only nine weeks to live. Chemotherapy was used to extend Josh’s life and Josh lived for another two years. In that time, his mother Sarah decided they would live life to the full, travelling the world, doing things that children dream about.
That was the inspiration for the charity. Life is short, in some cases too short and TJF aims to make the precious time a child with terminal cancer has left as special as possible.
We take our referrals from Oncology units via the Social Workers. We do not means test and we have no restrictions on a family having received assistance from any other wish granting charities or other organizations. Whereas other wish organizations provide one off experiences, the Joshua Foundation effectively “adopts” the children and their families providing them with on-going experiences and memories.
The money you raise for us helps us to organise individual holidays and experiences as well as group gatherings such as our annual trip to Lapland, our annual Halloween party, Breakfast with Santa and Easter Bunny and other events. So a big thank you all in advance!
