Our Children and their Experiences
The Joshua Foundation firmly believes that holidays and experiences make a positive contribution to the child’s ability to deal with his/her illness and subsequent treatment. Children rise to the challenges they are faced with and the experiences that the charity provides them with, will act as positive goals to aim for. The experiences also provide long lasting memories for the families to treasure in the tough times that lay ahead. As far as is possible, The Joshua Foundation try to include the whole family in the chosen experience.
We offer individual experiences to children diagnosed with terminal cancer which is defined as “a cancer for which treatment is deemed to be largely for palliative purposes rather than a curative one”.
These experiences range from the popular requests for cinema, bowling and theme park trips, Euro Disney holidays, London weekend breaks, limo rides, football stadium tours and meeting super heroes to the more unusual requests such as a make-over in Selfridges, a visit to a chinese restaurant to use a lazy susan and a wedding party.
The holidays and experiences must be approved by the parents of the child and supported by medical practitioners. No travel-related experiences or holidays will be given unless a child is accompanied by a parent/guardian or other supporting adult. All overseas trips must be covered by appropriate medical insurance which can be arranged by the Foundation.
Over the next few pages we have included some of the children we have helped with individual experiences over the past eleven years.
