Find out what our families say about the apartments

In 2003, The Joshua Foundation was donated a large detached house in the West Wales town of Fishguard. This property, which was donated to us by Mr Carey George, has undergone a £100,000 refurbishment (courtesy of the Zurich Foundation) and has been transformed into tranquil and relaxing luxury apartments, aiming to offer a soothing holiday retreat for children with cancer. On the 8th May 2004, The Joshua Foundation cut the ribbon and the apartments were officially opened.

Fishguard
Located on the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast, Fishguard is a fantastic base from which to visit the spectacular coastlines, beaches and fun family attractions, the county has to offer. There are a lovely selection of shops, and is the home of the Irish ferry. The upper town is very busy, with friendly pubs and good places to eat and has a leisure centre with a swimming pool, situated at the back of the Fishguard School. In contrast the lower town is much older and nestles around the old fishing harbour, where the river Gwaun rushes out towards the sea. Famous films have been made here, Dylan Thomas` Under Milkwood, and Orson Wells classic` Moby Dick. Fishguard is also famous for the place where the last invasion of Britain took place in 1797, when the French landed ashore.

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park has some of the best beaches in Europe - everything from big bays to tiny coves. It's also wonderful for coastal walks and the flowers, seabirds and seals you'll see on the way. But that's not all. Children love the choice of attractions on offer here - everything from mighty Oakwood, Wales's answer to an American theme park, to the enchanting Folly Farm near Kilgetty.

During the last year, the apartments have gone through some drastic changes

"We spent 4 fantastic days at your beautiful Fishguard Apartment. It was such a welcome break from treatment it did the whole family the world of good. What The Joshua Foundation offers to families like ours is beyond words. It really is fantastic and long may it continue".

"The apartment is lovely the weather is just right, we are having lots of fun!!"

"Thank you very much for the wonderful week we had at your flat in Fishguard. It was really great to make use of such a lovely flat and allowed us to do something completely different – a break from the normal routine!"

"A weeks stay in flat 3 at Fishguard was a much needed break. The apartment is true luxury and afforded us the time to be a normal family, and for a week at least we could almost forget about the seemingly endless round of treatment. The service the Joshua Foundation provides is truly remarkable and we will forever be grateful."

"We went to the Fishguard Luxury Apartment over Easter and had a great time. It is quite private and tranquil ideal if you are getting over an illness and want to rest and enjoy the wonderful scenery"

"The apartments were superb with great views of Fishguard harbour. They were in an excellent location, well equipped and the children really enjoyed the toys and the play room. It was such a relaxing break with plenty of sightseeing. Thank you to The Joshua Foundation it wouldn’t be possible without you!"

"The apartment has been wonderful, his favourite room is the playroom where he has found so much comfort lying on top of the big white bear. St Davids beach is wonderful and has given us many memories to take home. Without your provision of the apartment this holiday wouldn’t have been possible."

"Our whole family was bowled over by the apartment especially the playroom. I could hardly tear myself away from the view from the lounge window. A million thanks."

"The Joshua Foundation has again provided our family with the opportunity of having a break. The accommodation is well thought out and of a very high standard. During the week the weather was great and we made the most of it - a mackerel fishing trip, trips to the beach and crabbing in the harbour. We even adopted a few pet crabs who lived in the bath for a while (since cleaned!)"
