1. Lapland
In December 1997 Joshua Cornelius took a trip
to Lapland; something the Joshua Foundation
now does for children with terminal cancer on
an annual basis- it is a real highlight of our Calendar

Since December 2000 the Joshua Foundation has
been running annual trips to the snowy winter
wonderland of Lapland – a journey just like
the one Joshua did. The flights depart from
Cardiff, Bristol, Gatwick and Birmingham airports
taking the youngsters and their families to
the snow covered wonders of Rovaneimi in Finland
with Transun, one of the countries best providers
of Lapland trips. For children of all ages,
this is the big one – a day out to Lapland to
meet Father Christmas, with a number of exciting
activities to bring special smiles to the faces
of everyone.
The day starts early! Checking in at one of
the regional airports, the flights normally
take off at 7.00am arriving in Rovaneimi,. Finland
at approx 12.30pm local time. If not dark already,
it soon will be! It is truly magical arriving
at this airport in what is a real 'white winter
wonderland'.
The day is then spent at Santa's Village in
the midst of the Artic circle and the highlight
is undoubtedly the visit to see Father Christmas
in his bustling cabin. No matter how busy he
is; Santa always has time to see the children
who have travelled from afar to see him.
For details of our next trips to Lapland, see
our calendar.

2. The London Experience
The first experience The Joshua Foundation
ever organised was a weekend trip to London.
During this weekend the children were taken
on a tour of London and were chauffeured by
Limosine to Planet Hollywood where they were
thrown a party, which included a film premier.
In January 2004, this event was repeated as
part of our 5th Anniversary celebrations.
Twenty families were taken from all over the
country to join as a group in a Hyde Park hotel.
The families enjoyed a tour of London including
a trip to the London Aquarium and a cruise along
the river Thames.
The next day they were all treated to a party
at Planet Hollywood where they enjoyed a magician
show and a celebrity appearance from Shane Ritchie,
Jessie Wallace and Christopher Parker (better
known as Alfie, Kat and Spencer Moon from Eastenders).
We are extremely grateful to everyone who supported
and helped us arrange this event.

3. Hard Rock Café – Cardiff
This event followed on from the success of
the London event. This event was held in Cardiff
specifically for children being treated in Llandough
hospital (the unit where Joshua received his
treatment). This event continued our 5th birthday
celebrations.
Twenty children with cancer brought Cardiff
to a standstill. Heads turned, as a convoy of
seven limousines paraded down St Mary's Street
to the door of the venue.
Greeted by BBC Wales's Owen Money, the children
and their families walked up the red carpet
into the venue and for four hours were treated
like celebrities. They had their faces painted,
did the YMCA, ate ice cream sundaes and were
captivated by the Magician's show. Tired but
smiling the Limos chauffeured them home.
