Welcome to the Joshua Foundation's Challenge Pack
The Joshua Foundation is a worldwide charity created in 1998 to provide
holidays and experiences for children and their families, where the child is
diagnosed with terminal cancer. The idea behind the experiences and the
holidays is to allow the children and their families to escape illness and
the intimidating, clinical and sterile atmosphere of hospitals. Our aim
is to make life a real experience for the children and their families.
The charity takes its name from Joshua Cornelius, from South Wales, who was
diagnosed with Desmoplastic Round Cell Tumour of the Abdomen, a terminal
cancer, in December 1996 and who died, aged 7 on December 4th 1998.

Take the Challenge With Joshua
Joshua Cornelius Lived 4 2 Day, even though he faced a 2
year battle with an aggressive form of abdominal cancer
and underwent intensive chemotheraphy. To offset this, in
his 23 months of treatment, he travelled the world-
California, New York, Florida, Lapland, Israel and 4 trips to
Eurodisney. An experience the Joshua Foundation
endeavours to repeat for others.
By taking up a challenge for the Joshua Foundation, we give
you the chance to not just raise funds to help us provide
holidays and experiences for children with terminal cancer,
but we also provide you with an opportunity to
explore your horizons. Life is to be lived and we
aim to make your life a better experience through
taking part in any one of the challenges we offer.
1. International Challenges
Whether its trekking to Everest Base Camp in Nepal, white water
rafting the mighty Zambezi river in Africa, cycling the Canadian
Rockies, driving your own team of huskies while dog sledding in
Lapland or trekking the world famous Inca trail in Peru, we have
the perfect challenge for you. In partnership with Global
Challenges we can offer a comprehensive list of challenges
that will stretch the body and mind and at the same time raise
much needed funds for our work with children with terminal cancer.
2. Running for Joshua
Every year runners and trekkers continue to contribute towards
the annual fundraising of the Joshua Foundation
by taking part in challenges such as the Flora
London Marathon, New York Marathon, Three Peaks
Challenge or even the gruelling
|
Marathon des Sables. Please take a look at
our Running and Trekking calendar here.
3. Team Leading "The Oz Experience" Project
In 2001, the Joshua Foundation launched a new
fundraising project, the Oz Experience which allows 16-18
year olds the opportunity to travel to Australia to undertake
conservation work in return for raising sponsorship in the
UK. Groups have travelled to Australia in the summer
breaks of 2001-2005. In 2006 we have 180 youngsters
from across the UK travelling for an experience of a lifetime
and a team of 300 is envisaged for 2007.
For more information please visit our
dedicated Oz Experience website.
These teams of youngsters require team
leaders who supervise them on a 1:15 ratio. It
is a hands on experience and we ask that our
team leaders raise at least £1200 to cover
costs. This is literally a trip of a lifetime and by
taking part you get to travel downunder and
help us to make life a real experience for the
young people who take part and ultimately the
children we work with who are terminally ill.
Every year hundreds of people with little fundraising
experience raise funds for the Joshua Foundation by taking
up the challenge.
If you would like to fundraise for the Joshua Foundation by choosing to take
part in a UK or overseas event, we can provide
you with full fundraising support, including
sponsor forms, itinerary planning, and full
advice on fundraising methods. Click
